The Department of Social and Human Sciences ( DCSH ) was a pioneer in the Bologna process, having all undergraduate and master's courses adapted to the new rules since 2006-07.
The DSCH ensures the Scientific and Pedagogical Coordination of the Higher Professional Technical Course in Family and Community Service, the degrees in Sociocultural Animation and Social Education, the latter being an area of training in which ISCE was a pioneer in Portugal, and the postgraduate courses .
DSCH has a consolidated presence in postgraduate training, namely postgraduate courses in Intervention with Children and Young People at Risk and Socio-educational Intervention in Gerontology and the master's degree in Social Education.
Their Bachelor's degrees, as well as their Master's degrees, have seen their accreditations ranked well in external assessments carried out by CAE.
DCSH , in addition to academic and pedagogical training, emphasizes teamwork, cooperation and sharing of responsibilities between the teachers who are part of it, as has been explained in the annual activity plan.
Scientific research is a key component of the department with a line of research consisting of several nuclei. The research work associated with them has contributed to the advancement of technical-scientific knowledge in socio-educational domains.
The majority of the department's teachers carry out their research work within the scope of CI-ISCE, ISCE's research center. Some teachers also carry out their research work in other national and international research centers.
The Department has always had a strong connection to both the local and scientific community, promoting and participating in various initiatives, from social/cultural activities to various training courses, seminars and congresses.
